Life Need Not Be a Pain
It is hard to believe that pain is sometimes necessary: it
serves a purpose to tell us that something is wrong with the body. It alerts us
to a physical problem so that there can be an appropriate response. Generally
there are two types of pain: acute and chronic.
Acute pain is associated with the sudden outset of pain such
as a broken arm, a cut finger, a burn on the hand and is generally more intense
than chronic pain.
Chronic pain is usually of an ongoing nature such as back
pain, arthritis, and intensity may vary, frequently becoming more tense and
consequently increasing the severity of the pain experience.
Suffering is Optional
Whether the pain is acute or chronic, suffering of that pain
is entirely optional. All pain is real, but being continuously reminded there is
a problem is not always beneficial. The suffering of the pain is frequently more
threatening that the underlying ailment.
The Medical Endorsement
In the 1950's the British Medical Association
endorsed the practice of hypnosis, since then it has become a valuable addition
to conventional medical treatment. For decades, researchers have subjected
hypnosis to the scrutiny of clinical trials - and it has passed with flying
colours.
|
It's been successfully used to soothe acute and
chronic pain stemming from surgery, cancer, kidney stones, back conditions, and
invasive medical and dental procedures.
Regardless of
its success in clinical trials many members of the medical community want a
definite, physical and
mechanistically sound approach to
the treatment of afflictions. Because of this, the medical
community tends to be neglectful
of any treatment, which includes hypnosis, that ignores the "temperature-taking, shot-giving,
prescription" mentality.
By doing so, they are ignoring the
proven benefits of using hypnosis.
Nevertheless in The Lancet, it was recently reported that
hypnosis reduced pain, anxiety, and blood pressure complications in patients
undergoing invasive medical procedures.
Pain Management with Hypnosis
When used in an
appropriate manner, hypnosis has
proven itself to be an effective tool in the management of pain and
pain perception.
Many people who may benefit from the technique do not explore
it. For some, hypnosis carries a stigma, or perhaps it is because there is no
general acceptance of how hypnosis works in controlling pain. Nevertheless
hypnotherapy has a proven track record is aiding those suffering pain.
|
Hypnosis is an easy-to-administer
procedure which has no
deep or long-lasting side effects,
yet most doctors ignore its effectiveness in lieu of more traditional
methods. However, a
hypnotherapist trained in using hypnosis for pain management can reduce pain
or, when appropriate, eliminate it over limited or long periods of time.
If you are one of the those many people whose lives are governed by pain,
consider how much better off if you will be if you are in control of the
pain and not permitting pain to control you.
You should consult your doctor for any undiagnosed pain prior to receiving
hypnosis. It is a complimentary therapy and should, where needed, be used in
partnership with conventional medicine.
“Pain Management” is just one of many ways hypnosis can help you achieve a
healthier, longer and happier life.
